Björn Borg married the Italian artist Loredana Bertè in 1989, but the marriage did not last long. Just four years later, the couple chose to divorce.
Bertè, who gave up his career for love, was quick to regret the marriage.
– The biggest mistake of my life was falling in love with Björn Borg. I made the mistake of throwing away six years of my life and my career by being his wife, she has said.
Despite the breakdown of the marriage, the story of Borg and Bertè continued. Shortly after the divorce in 1993, the Italian tennis icon reported polygamy to the police. The reason? Borg married his current wife Patricia, while the couple was still married according to Italian records, according to Bertè.
Ex-wife’s mockery of Björn Borg
But even though it’s been more than 30 years since the ex-spouses divorced, the Italian has not forgotten Björn Borg. Bertè, who has reached the age of 73, is one of the participants in the Sanremo festival, the Italian version of the Swedish Melodifestivalen.
Her goal is to win, go to the Eurovision final in Malmö and get revenge on Björn Borg.
– Vote for me, I would like to go to Eurovision because it is held in Malmö. Then I will piss off my ex-husband. I will have a nice revenge, she said during the festival according to Corriere dello Sport.
– I’m going to win Sanremo, then I’ll break his (Björn Borg’s) balls, continued Bertè, who is competing with the song “Pazza”.
Björn Borg has had a total of three marriages. In addition to Loredana Bertè and current wife Patricia Borg, the tennis icon was also married to Mariana Simionescu during the beginning of his successful career.
