BJ GOVERNMENT ATTENTIVE TO COORDINATION FOR TROPICAL STORM “HELENE”

Cancun, QR, September 24, 2024.- The Municipal President, Ana Paty Peralta, participated in the Extraordinary Session of the State Civil Protection Council to provide attention and follow-up to the passage of tropical storm “Helene”, as well as the updated report on monitoring, follow-up and prevention measures, both headed by Governor Mara Lezama, in which she issued the Yellow Alert in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Lázaro Cárdenas, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, which means Moderate Danger.

From the C5 Security Complex in Cancun, the First Municipal Authority thanked the Governor for the coordinated work that is being maintained to protect the population and reported that, if necessary, there are enough shelters to open in a first stage, including one for people with pets, in which mats and food will be provided.

He also pointed out that since the weekend, preventive work on roads has been intensified with the support of brigades in different parts of the city and that City Hall personnel will be available with a force of 1,450 elements from all departments, including emergency corporations such as Firefighters, Civil Protection, Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, Public Services, among others.

For the protection of the population, he said that road closures are planned in case the rains intensify, so that there is no circulation in 15 areas identified with a greater possibility of flooding because the pavement is close to the water table, and that bilge pumps are available for areas such as the Donceles 28 and Lombardo Toledano colonies.

Ana Paty Peralta invited citizens to use the “Reporta y Aporta” program number, which is 9988 44 8035, to report any needs related to well dredging, junk removal, and plant waste cleaning. She also emphasized that there will be no changes to the solid waste collection schedules at this time, and recommended that they not throw waste on the street that could clog drains and grates.

The Governor also issued a Blue Alert for Othón P. Blanco, Bacalar and José María Morelos; and a Blue Alert for Solidaridad, Tulum, Cozumel and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

During the State Civil Protection Council, the technical deputy director of the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) in Quintana Roo, César Alejandro Canul Macario, indicated that the phenomenon was located around 9:00 a.m. 410 kilometers off the coast of Quintana Roo, moving north-northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and heading towards the Yucatan Channel, which is why maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of 75 kilometers per hour are expected, so it is expected to reach tropical storm category in the next 24 hours and then hurricane 1.

In turn, the commander of the 34th Military Zone, Fidel Mondragón Rivero, pointed out that coordination is maintained with the heads of Civil Protection of all municipalities to supervise the shelters in places of possible impact, in addition to having personnel and units available to assist the civilian population.

On behalf of the Ninth Naval Region, its head Abraham Eloy Caballero Rosas, stressed that Quintana Roo is an exemplary state in terms of civil protection, since there have been many eventualities, however, thanks to the coordination and cooperation of authorities from the three levels of government, they have managed to get out without harm to citizens, so on this occasion the Navy Plan has already been activated in its prevention phase with nearly a thousand elements in five mobile support bases.
