A suspect arrested by the police went for a swim in the Kostverlorenvaart in West tonight. He did so in handcuffs.
On the Baarsjesweg he walked with the police around 7 p.m., but he decided to jump into the water. “Two colleagues went after it to save the suspect because he was handcuffed, but also because he was a suspect,” says a police spokesman.
Several fire trucks, ambulances and a mobile medical trauma team were alerted as a precaution. However, the fire brigade did not have to take action, says a fire service spokesman. At Tolbrugstraat, officers were able to get the man out of the water.
Hospital
The suspect has been taken to hospital. The officers received a heat blanket and were then able to go to a police station. The police spokesperson cannot yet say tonight what the man who jumped into the water is suspected of, it may become clear tomorrow.
It was a few degrees above freezing tonight and there was even a layer of snow.
