The bivalent vaccine went like hotcakes in the vaccination clinics, and it seems that those distributed by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) to apply this week ran out in a single day.

Social networks have become the bearer of bad news for the thousands who still want to apply the booster vaccine against Covid-19.
Thus, the Calderón Guardia Hospital, the Mexico Hospital, the San Francisco-San Antonio Health Area, administered by Coopesana RL, and the Tibás Health Area, administered by Coopesain RL, no longer have vaccines available until further notice.
“The available doses were applied in a single day, the influx of people was very good. For this week, they have already run out and we hope that more vaccines will enter,” said Dr. Esteban Medina, from the San Francisco-San Antonio Health Area.
Faced with this situation, LA REPÚBLICA consulted the authorities of the Social Security Fund how many doses of the bivalent vaccine were distributed in national hospitals and health areas.
18,000 doses entered, so this week is the amount that was distributed to all health establishments, indicated the Epidemiological Surveillance Subarea of the institution.
They also indicated that each health facility establishes the strategies to be used, as appropriate and while supplies last.
It is important to remember that the bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 is a reinforcement of the fourth and fifth dose.

The health authorities of the Fund were pending to inform whether more doses will be distributed in the coming days.
