Bitter debut! HSV celebrates after Cologne blunder

1. FC Cologne will face Hamburger SV in the 2. Bundesliga season opener. The match starts off fast – a ridiculous goalkeeping mistake leads to the first goal.

Jonas Urbig had certainly imagined this debut to be very different: It was the sixth minute of the opening game of the new second division season. A seemingly harmless cross sailed towards Cologne keeper Urbig’s goal, but he had massive problems securing the ball, the ball slipped through his hands and landed right at the feet of HSV striker Ransford Königsdörffer. The result: 1-0 for Hamburger SV.

1. FC Cologne could have taken the lead themselves in the opening game of the new season in the 2. Bundesliga (now in the live ticker) shortly before – if not should have. Less than three minutes had been played in Cologne and the Bundesliga relegated team had already missed numerous chances – HSV, on the other hand, only needed one.

Terodde shows understanding for unlucky people

“It is incomprehensible that this is happening to him,” said SkyCommentator Martin Groß. Urbig actually has great quality and was one of the best second division goalkeepers last season – and yet he couldn’t believe it.

Despite all this, Urbig – the new number one in goal for Cologne – has a great career ahead of him. “He will grow from this,” summed up Simon Terodde in his new role as SkyExpert. You just have to stand behind the boy, even if he makes a mistake. “But it still turns the game on its head.”

Particularly controversial: Urbig, returning on loan from Fürth, has only recently become number one in Cologne. He was preferred over Marvin Schwäbe, who was actually supposed to leave and put the club in a goalkeeping dilemma. The game against HSV is the first competitive game for the goalkeeping talent from Cologne’s youth team.

And that wasn’t all: In the 35th minute, HSV increased the lead to 2-0 – and again it was Königsdörffer. This time Urbig reacted superbly, but the crossbar proved his undoing and Königsdörffer again had a shot on goal – standing free and from very close range.

However, all of this probably doesn’t matter to the newly appointed HSV coach Steffen Baumgart, because he was finally able to celebrate the 2-1 victory – and against his former club, of all teams.
