Bitkom President Achim Berg reprimands the federal government and accuses it of having a lot of catching up to do in digital education and administration in an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk. Berg commented on this before the start of the federal government’s digital summit. The motto of the summit this year is: “Living digitally more sustainably”. Berg sees great potential for the use of digital technology in this area.
“I have seldom seen a project as ambitious as the digitization of the administration, which would, however, be so important in order to reduce bureaucratic visits and introduce the public to digitization.” Bitkom President Achim Berg
Here Germany is in a relegation place in a European comparison. According to Berg, they are also far behind in digital education. The corona crisis also showed that. The president of the industry association referred to the problems in schools with online teaching.
Digital technologies help climate protection
With a view to the connection between digitization and sustainability, Berg cited a recent study commissioned by his association, according to which digital technologies can contribute almost half of Germany’s climate targets by 2030.
According to the Bitkom President, there is potential for CO2 savings in industry through more automation in production. In product development, more and more are simulated in advance on the computer before prototypes are built. In the area of living, digital technology can help to reduce electricity consumption. Intelligent traffic control or home office solutions are therefore further possible applications. The Bitkom president sees the network expansion required for this slowly but surely on the right track. The German government’s 14th digital summit will take place online this Monday and Tuesday.
