“Nausea”, “dizziness” or severe pain: dozens of young people in France say they have been stung in nightclubs or at festivals, creating a climate of “psychosis”.
The phenomenon worries. Cases have been reported during concerts at the Printemps de Bourges and recently in nightclubs, notably in Béziers, Grenoble, Périgueux, Nantes or Toulouse. Dozens of people affected. And complaints filed all over France.
Fifteen procedures in Rennes
In Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), fifteen investigations have thus been opened since December and entrusted to the departmental security after reports of bites, mainly affecting women. “Fifteen procedures have been recorded at the Rennes prosecutor’s office since December 10, 2021, in night establishments in Rennes (night bar, nightclubs or concert hall), involving 14 women and one man”, according to the prosecutor of the Republic of Rennes Philippe Astruc.
According to the prosecutor, they established “a single discomfort, a single presence of a suspicious person at the time of the injection, no attempted robbery or sexual assault afterwards”. In Toulouse, Wednesday, three complaints were filed by women considering themselves victims of bites in a festive place.
These bites are “most often on the upper body (back or arms)” while “no biological analysis revealed any suspicious substance”, adds Philippe Astruc, specifying however that there had been no results of all analyses. “To date, no one has therefore been implicated with regard to this phenomenon, which remains without tangible explanation”, notes the prosecutor.
According to Le Parisien, “of the 53 complaints recorded on April 22, the toxicological analyzes revealed nothing. Neither GHB (“date rape drug”), nor GBL (more common than GHB, with similar effects), nor any other harmful substance. »
Finally, according to Marianne, the latest analyzes received by the Grenoble prosecutor’s office this Friday, April 29 did not reveal the presence of GHB either.
