Bitcoins are disappearing from wallets in El Salvador » Crypto Insiders

Dat El Salvador Bitcoin (BTC) officially embraced as legal tender was great crypto news. The step of the country has for a considerable boost in the adoption of the cryptocurreny. But now there are complaints here and there that the Chivo wallet developed by the government is not working properly. Many Salvadorans would complain about the disappearance of bitcoin from their wallets.

$16,000 in BTC gone

In a series of tweets, Twitterer El Comisionado shows various complaints. Salvadorans are said to have lost from a few tens of dollars to more than $10,000 worth of BTC. Twitterer DVBT Multiservices shows a number of unauthorized transactions in two screenshots. The bitcoin that disappeared was worth more than $16,000.

The Chivo wallet was developed by the government there and has already faced serious problems several times. For example, the wallet uses facial recognition to prevent the above unauthorized transactions. But that doesn’t work quite as intended.

Sarah Connor poster makes fun of Chivo

For example, a while back there was the story that facial recognition software can be fooled by simply showing a photo. Salvadorans receive $30 each when they create the wallet that requires them to scan an ID card.

They then have to have their face scanned with the facial recognition software to verify that it is the same person. However, a Salvadoran managed to create a wallet with a poster of Sarah Connor from the Terminator film.

The country’s government has yet to respond to the complaints and remains silent for the time being. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the issues will be resolved anytime soon. And unfortunately, a lost bitcoin is really lost. Transactions on the blockchain cannot be reversed in any way.

Salvadorans can also use BTC without the Chivo wallet. Any bitcoin wallet that supports the Lightning Network can be used to pay at businesses in El Salvador.
