Bitcoin Mining Sector Partly Paused in US State of New York » Crypto Insiders

The New York State Assembly has passed a moratorium law that largely puts bitcoin mining in the state on hold. The news follows earlier crypto news from the American state that it will take a close look at mining.

New York State Pauses Bitcoin Mining Industry

Fortunately, the law does seem to have some nuances, so that the entire industry will not be stopped at once, as happened in China. The government in the American state wants to put a stop to miners that use fossil fuels.

Existing miners who use green energy to mine their bitcoins will hardly notice the law. New BTC miners, and existing miners that want to expand but use fossil fuels, will no longer be able to obtain a permit for the next two years in any case.

In addition, the New York State Environmental Protection Department will be instructed to investigate and report on bitcoin miners in the state. The bill has yet to be passed by the New York State Senate, so it’s not quite done yet.

Bitcoin mining in town hall

In another US state, we also see some striking bitcoin mining news. In Texas, which is widely known for being crypto-friendly, the city of Fort Worth is going to mine bitcoin in its city hall! It concerns three Bitmain Antminer S9 miners that will mine bitcoins 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The city received the miners as a gift from the Texas Blockchain Council. The donation is one of the reasons the city is now looking into buying BTC after previously remaining neutral on the matter. However, Mayor Mattie Parker now sees that cryptocurrencies could become a big part of the future.
