Bitcoin mining ban New York: Mayor wants a solution

The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, presents himself as a supporter of crypto. To put those positive feelings about cryptocurrencies into practice, Adams wants to turn New York into a crypto hub. One small problem for Adams is that New York recently banned bitcoin mining.

The infamous bitcoin mining ban

Mayor Adams tells NY Daily News he is not deterred by the ban on bitcoin mining. “I will work with lawmakers to find a happy medium and I am confident we will,” said an optimistic Adams.

In any case, for the next two years it will be forbidden in New York to mine bitcoins with fossil fuels. This means that bitcoin mining is not completely banned in the state. It is still possible to start with sustainable energy.

In June, Adams made another attempt to get the governor to veto the bill. It didn’t work out, but Adams isn’t giving up on his fight to make New York an encrypted state for this reason.

America’s leading player in BTC mining

Somehow it is strange that this ban was chosen in New York, given that the United States is a gigantic player in the field of bitcoin mining. Approximately 37.8% of the total network hashrate is currently located in the United States.

“We need to be a hot spot for all forms of technology. Cryptocurrencies are part of it. The question is how can we make smart choices to make New York and the United States a leader in this new technology,” Adams continued.

Following his mayoral election, Adams had already announced on Twitter that he would be paying his first three salaries in bitcoin. Furthermore, he has expressed his intention to make New York the center of the cryptocurrency world. To achieve this, he must first ensure that the mining ban is lifted.
