Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says so bitcoin (BTC), the mother of all cryptocurrencies, will be a “big part” of Twitter’s future. That’s what the billionaire says in a video conference on July 22.
The conference was primarily a discussion of Q2 2021 financial results. Twitter outperformed expectations, said Ned Segal, Twitter’s CFO. The company made a profit of $1.19 trillion last quarter, an increase of a staggering 74% from the second quarter of 2020.
Next, Dorsey talks about bitcoin, calling it the “best candidate” for the “native currency” become of the Internet. According to the CEO, that means “people and businesses around the world can freely trade in goods and services.”
“If the internet has its own currency, a global currency, we can trade so much faster with products like Super Follows, Commerce, Subscriptions, Tip Jar, and with that we can reach every person on the planet instead of a market-by-market -to-market approach. I think this is a big part of our future.”
According to Dorsey, adding that Twitter that this technology is about more than just money and that Twitter will continue to invest in the market:
“I think there’s a lot of innovation beyond just money, especially as we’re thinking about decentralizing social media more and giving more economic incentives. So I think it’s hugely important for Twitter and Twitter shareholders that we continue to look at the industry and invest aggressively in it.”
Dorsey recently hosted “The ₿ Word,” a conference on bitcoin including Elon Musk. Dorsey then said that bitcoin can bring “world peace”.
