14.4 kilometers were on the program in the individual time trial of the third stage on Tuesday. Bissegger, who has cleared pretty much everything there is to clear on the track and in the fight against the clock in Switzerland in the junior and U-23 areas, also took the lead in the overall standings ahead of Cavagna. But on Wednesday the overall standings are likely to be turned upside down, as there are seven mountain classifications including the final ascent on the 187.5 kilometers from Chalon-sur-Saone to Chiroubles.

Roglic is in the best position, the Slovenian finished third in the time trial and, six seconds behind Bissegger, is also third in the overall standings. However, defending champion Schachmann also showed good form in the time trial and is 13th in the overall standings 22 seconds behind. Schachmann is in good company: Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk (+ 20 seconds) is in eleventh place, while Spaniard Ion Izaguirre takes twelfth place (+ 21) a.
