Passau bishop pleads for more benevolence
The “art of interpreting benevolence” is needed especially in the debate about the correct corona policy, says Passau Bishop Stefan Oster. The model for this could be God’s view of the believers.
Passau – 24.12.2021
The Bishop of Passau, Stefan Oster, warns in the debate about a correct Corona policy for mutual understanding. “I call it the art of displaying benevolence”, Oster told Bayerischer Rundfunk in an interview (Friday).
In his opinion, one should ask oneself: “Can one assume that the other person, who thinks and ticks differently than I, even in difficult questions, wants what is good for the world, for his own life, for the others? Or do I always just insinuate that he threatens my life and wrecks my life because he gets vaccinated or doesn’t get vaccinated? ” Everyone should therefore learn that there is also something good in the other. The model for this action is God’s view of the believers, said the Passau bishop.
There is more to Christmas than a sentimental celebration
For Easter, Christmas rituals are particularly helpful in difficult times if you have an inner believing access to them. He does believe that people feel that there is more to Christmas than a sentimental celebration. Right now there is a chance to reflect on the original Christmas secret, without consumption.
Belief in a God who suffered, died and rose again can help to draw hope from suffering. Whoever can get involved in the secret of faith that the presence of God overcomes everything that is peaceless and deadly can also overcome opposites well, according to Oster. This also facilitates the “art of interpreting benevolence”. (cbr / KNA)
