Bishop Micas ordained bishop this Sunday at the sanctuary of Lourdes

Mgr Micas is ordained bishop this Sunday, in the basilica of Saint Pie-X. An event that promises to be grandiose, for which many symbols have been taken from the collections of the sanctuary.

Mgr Jean-Marc Micas is ordained bishop of the diocese of Tarbes and Lourdes, this Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 3 p.m., at the Notre-Dame de Lourdes sanctuary, in the Saint Pie-X basilica. A major event, for which about twenty bishops are expected. Because it is indeed the first time since 1926 that a priest will be appointed bishop for the diocese of Tarbes and Lourdes.
The ceremony therefore promises to be grandiose, with liturgical objects taken from the collections and intended to show the “continuity” in the Church, explains the director of the communication and resources department of the sanctuary, Vincent Neymon.

The Apostolic Nuncio will don the chasuble of Benedict XVI

These “symbols” will thus be certain objects that were used during the time of Bishop Lawrence. But also gold roses made for John Paul II.
The Apostolic Nuncio, Celestino Migliore, will wear the chasuble worn by Benedict XVI. If he is present at all ordinations, the nuncio represents the papacy, with the role of ambassador, he also plays a key role in appointments.
The ordination mass will be celebrated by Mgr Guy de Kérimel, archbishop of Toulouse, accompanied by several bishops, including Mgr Nicolas Brouwet, bishop of Nîmes and co-consecrator. It will be broadcast live on TV Lourdes.

“Revival” at the Sanctuary

The following day, Monday May 30, the installation of Mgr Micas in his cathedral of Tarbes will take place at 6 p.m. and can be followed on Radio Présence.
The Lourdes ceremony will therefore be strong in symbols, and announces a “renewal”, rejoices Vincent Neymon again.
The post of bishop had effectively been vacant since the departure of Bishop Brouwet in August last year. The diocese will therefore be happy to welcome its new guide.

Departures

It is a period of more global change which opens, since the rector Mgr Olivier Rbadeau-Dumas also completes his three-year term.
He will be replaced by Father Michel Daubanes, whose candidacy for the post was prompted by Bishop Micas. Father Michel Daubanes will also be present at the ordination ceremony. For his part, he will start the 1is September a term of five years, renewable once.
Another notable departure is that of the apostolic delegate of the sanctuary, Mgr Hérouard, who left his post last week. A mass of thanksgiving had been given at the grotto.
