Bishop Heinrich invites you to participate in Dresden on Tuesday, July 4th
Dresden. As part of his state visit to Germany, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Dresden together with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday, July 4th. On the Neumarkt in front of the Dresden Frauenkirche, he wants to give a big speech to the youth of Europe at a party with young people. On this occasion, Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer invited all schools to a “Fête de l’Europe”: “This is a great honor for us. We would like to take advantage of this very special opportunity and give many young people the opportunity to have this unique experience to be there,” said the head of government.
Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers also supports the invitation to Dresden and has forwarded it to the diocesan youth and the episcopal schools in Saxony. In a letter to the students, he writes: “I think this is an excellent reason to invite you to a meeting in Dresden, to think about Europe and to exchange ideas about it together.” The young people of the diocese are in the run-up to the Fête de l’Europe invited from 1 p.m. to come together in the house of the cathedral (Schloßstraße 24) in Dresden in order to go from there together to the nearby Neumarkt. Following the festival program there, the young people can linger on the impressions of the afternoon in conversation with Bishop Timmerevers over an evening snack together in the cathedral building.

During his three-day state visit, President Macron will visit not only Dresden but also Berlin and Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg. It is the first state visit by a French President to Germany in over two decades.
Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer: “The visit of French President Emmanuel Macron will be one of the biggest political events of this year. France and Germany have a lot in common: culturally, economically and on a friendly basis. This deep partnership has been an important pillar of European stability for decades. With a celebration on Dresden’s Neumarkt, we want to build a bridge to Eastern Europe together with people from the Czech Republic and Poland. It will be a symbol of a reunited Europe, which would not have been possible without the support and trust of France. I am very pleased that Emmanuel Macron will also visit the Free State of Saxony as part of his visit to Germany.”
Varied program on two stages
A varied program will be offered on two stages from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Among other things, performances by the singers “Leony” and “Lea” and the Dresden band “01099” are planned. The French-German comedian Emmanuel Peterfalvi, better known as “Alfons”, will lead the program. Admission to the European Youth Festival on Dresden’s Neumarkt is free. A total of up to 15,000 guests are expected.
The festival is aimed primarily at young people. In addition to schoolchildren from Saxony and all over Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, students, trainees, and young professionals are expected. Representatives of the churches, the German-French youth organization, and Saxon schools with a bilingual focus on French are also involved in the program.
