As the culmination of this struggle, on a beautiful Sunday, we moved tense, expectant, through the plains of San Carlos. At the hospital in the region, one of the most extraordinary experiences of our profession awaited us, the birth of the first Costa Rican child through the in vitro procedure. The group included Dr. José Alonso Rodríguez, anesthetist, Dr. Deba Rivas, Dr. Escalante’s assistant in surgery and this server as a neonatologist.
