Birgit gave birth to son Jimi on the last day of 2021, their ‘first try miracle’ as she calls her son herself in the post. Getting pregnant with their son was quite difficult. The actress and her boyfriend had been trying to get pregnant for over a year, but that did not work out. After a few months, the couple was told that the chance of having a child together was two to three percent, so they decided to start an ICSI/IVF process.

While taking the picture, for the magazine LINDA.Birgit was in the middle of the process and had to inject hormones into her stomach. She writes: ‘While changing I saw the stylist looking at it. With some caution, I told about the IVF process that we had just started. The week after the shoot would turn out to be the magical week that my egg and Sanders seed would merge into Jimi. (…) We didn’t know that from the photo yet, but we wanted it fervently!’

The actress also has a son, Chico, from her marriage to director Arne Toonen. The couple broke up in 2019 and then Birgit found Sander.
