The Cure last released an album in 2008 4:13 Dream. From the upcoming one, they have already played some songs at recent concerts, including a melancholic song of almost seven minutes Alone combining electric guitars, heavy drum beats and the sound of synthesizers with an emotional feel.

“Thanks to this song, we found our way to the record. As soon as we recorded it, I knew it was the opening song, and I already had an idea of ​​where we were going to go with it. ‘ whole album,” says the group’s 65-year-old frontman Robert Smith. “I was looking for the right opening words for the right opening song for a long time. I was working with a simple idea when a person is just alone. And all the time I had the constant feeling that I knew already what the words would be,” he explains.

When they recorded the music, the singer remembered the poem Dregs by the English writer Ernest Dowson from the 19th century. “I knew that morning that this was the way to go and that we were really going to make the record,” he said.

The song begins with an instrumental piece that lasts more than three minutes. Only then is Smith’s voice heard. “This is the end of every song we sing / ashes from the fire, starlight lit by tears,” he sings. In another section, he refers to birds falling from the sky or “love fading from our lives”.
