Bird Flu Outbreak Comes Again in China

Shaanxi, Beritasatu.comChina’s Ministry of Agriculture said a bird flu outbreak has re-emerged in Shaanxi Province, northern China. As reported RT, Wednesday (9/6/2021), thousands of wild birds were reported dead.

“A new outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu, H5N8, has hit Shaanxi province. About 4,249 wild birds fell ill and died after the virus spread in the Hongjiannao nature reserve in Shenmu city,” China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said.

According to the ministry, emergency efforts to disinfect the surrounding area and dispose of bird remains have been carried out.

The National Avian Flu Reference Laboratory confirmed that the outbreak was a wild bird subtype of H5N8 influenza.

In total, according to officials, there have been six small outbreaks of the highly pathogenic bird flu in China this year. However, so far nothing has spread at the regional level.

The latest outbreak comes after China reported the world’s first case of human infection with the H10N3 strain of bird flu, in a man in the eastern city of Zhenjiang last week. According to health officials, the patient has since been discharged from the hospital.

The country’s National Health Commission rated the probability of a large-scale outbreak of the type as “very low.”
