AToday, our bins contain a quarter or even a third of bio-waste, which therefore goes directly to the Valserhône incinerator. This food waste is in fact mainly water. ”
And to incinerate water, it doesn’t make sense
», Notes Mathilde Gletty, waste prevention officer at Annemasse Agglo. To put an end to this paradox, at the same time as taking action for the energy transition by reducing its waste, a European law will come into force on January 1, 2024 with the obligation for communities to offer residents a solution for the management of their bio-waste. Composting is the most obvious solution. Thirty-six shared composting sites have been installed on the town since 2015. In very dense urban areas (20,000 inhabitants are concerned), door-to-door collection will be organized.
