Official advertisement EA and Bioware as “Technical Director” for the upcoming sequel to the Mass Effect series mentioned knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 as one of the conditions, which would indicate that the studio is considering or even using this technology to develop the highly anticipated sequel to the sci-fi saga.
This would be a major change from the past, when Bioware was forced to use “internal” Frostbite engine technology as well as virtually all studios working on big games for EA. Although Frostbite works extremely well for a certain type of game (FPS shooters), in the case of RPG games Mass Effect: Andromeda or Anthem, its use has led to many technical problems and shortcomings.
At the same time, the original Mass Effect trilogy was created entirely on Unreal Engine (third generation). Rumors of a return to Unreal confirmed also well-known game journalist Jeff Grub, although according to him the decision on the choice of technology is still not final. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that the creators really get the green light to use clearly more robust and reliable technology.
