Bioplastic, correct disposal helps the environment. Video interview with Roberto Damiano

Tuttoggi.info met Roberto Damiano, CEO of SIA Spa to talk to him about environmental hygiene. SIA Spa is in fact a company that deals with waste collection and urban decoration, serving eight municipalities in the Marscianese area. In recent months the company has been the protagonist, together with Tsa and Gesenu, of a communication campaign that has reached around 160 thousand citizens to inform them about the topic of compostable bioplastic, a material whose origins date back to a few centuries ago but which has widespread in recent years.

“The bioplastic – explains Damiano – it is a natural product that originates from corn, wheat and thistle. It has the advantage, compared to traditional plastic of petroleum origin, of degrading in a time frame of around 90 or 100 days, unlike plastic which, according to some studies, takes thousands of years”. For this reason the European Community has banned its use in some contexts. On the other hand, bioplastic is very widespread today. The common shopping bags in which we put the shopping or fruit and vegetable bags are made of bioplastic, recognizable by touch but also through logos that guarantee their compostability.

Events, stands, gadgets, are just some of the actions introduced by the campaign Use, Recycle, Bioplastic! useful to also make people understand the importance of correct disposal of compostable bioplastic. It is fundamental disposal of these bags which “must be used for the collection of organic waste – explains the SIA Spa Managing Director – and not together with plastic. In fact, due to their nature these bags allow you to absorb the liquids produced by the organic waste and therefore avoid waste percolation. Furthermore, in this way they degrade in the approximately 90 days that the composting process lasts. Conversely, in plastic they would cause real damage to the system itself.”

The countryside Use, Recycle, Bioplastic! will enter schools with an information program aimed at making even the youngest ones informed and sensitive to the topic of the correct use and recycling of materials, For a cleaner world.
