BioNTech will launch its African project and start construction of its factory in Rwanda

BioNTech will lay the first stone of its project in Africa. On June 23, the German biotechnology company will begin construction of are manufacturing and development center for new messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines in Kigali, Rwandaas reported by the company in a statement.

The construction start-up ceremony will be attended by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, various heads of state and government along with representatives of the African Union, the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

These manufacturing centers, called BioNTainer, are cargo containers equipped with the necessary equipment to produce the vaccine developed by BioNTechexcept for the final step of distributing the doses in bottles.

Each module is made up of six ISO-sized containers that allow the production of bulk mRNA vaccines, while filling and finishing will be assumed by other local partners on the continent.

The German laboratory recorded a profit of 3,698.8 million euros in the first three months of the year, which means tripling the results of the same period of 2021. Between January and March of last year, the company obtained a profit of 1,128 million euros.

In the first quarter of this year, the Teutonic laboratory also shot up its sales to 6,374.6 million euros, 211% above the 2,048.4 million in the first three months of 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, BioNTech and Pfizer marketed approximately 750 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19. For the year as a whole, the laboratory expects to achieve revenues of between 13,000 and 17,000 million euros from sales of its vaccine.
