FRANKFURT, June 9 (Reuters) – COVID-19 vaccine maker BioNTech (NASDAQ:) said construction of an mRNA vaccine factory destined for Africa will start in Rwanda on June 23.
The groundbreaking ceremony in the capital, Kigali, will be attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and other heads of state, as well as representatives of the African Union, the European Union and the World Health Organization, reported the biotech company in a statement.
The modular elements from the German company’s factory, to be assembled in Africa into so-called BioNTainers, will be delivered to the site by the end of 2022, he added.
