Biontech boss Ugur Sahin criticizes the lack of a vaccination strategy

Mainz The warnings of increasing numbers of corona infections due to the new variant BA.5 are getting louder. However, Biontech boss Ugur Sahin believes that a wave in the summer, if it comes, will be smaller. “In Africa it has already been seen that the BA.5 wave did not develop the dynamics that existed with the original Omikron variant,” Sahin said in an interview with the Handelsblatt.

With a view to the preparations for the fall, he criticized the lack of an “internationally coordinated strategy” such as that for flu vaccinations. This is urgently needed to continue fighting the pandemic. “We need to know early enough to which variant we should adapt the corona vaccines and produce them for the upcoming infection season,” said Sahin.
