Ideal sample material for noxious substances that are quickly eliminated from the blood, but whose metabolites can be detected in the urine for longer and in higher concentrations (pyrethroids, nicotine, drugs).
Some heavy metals such as mercury accumulate in body tissues (liver, kidneys). A mercury determination in the urine after mobilization with DMPS can be useful because of the increase in the measurement signal (“toxicological magnifying glass”).
