I am already 113 thousand students of over 1300 Italian primary schools who want to learn to “act according to nature”. And they are doing it thanks to “I Care About You”the free program of environmental and sustainability education promoted by WWF Italy and Regina (Sofidel Group). Born in 2014, it aims to introduce young generations to issues related to sustainability, with a particular focus on Objectives of the UN Agenda 2030and the daily actions that everyone can take to help safeguard the Planet.
The initiative is part of the collaboration that the Sofidel Group, among the world leaders in the production of paper for hygienic and domestic use, has undertaken for over 15 years in order to provide its contribution to the creation of a world where men and nature can live in harmony . The Group, which makes sustainability a strategic lever for growth, is part of the international program “Wwf Climate Savers” for the voluntary reduction of climate-changing emissions since 2008. Over the years it has undertaken a path of improvement of forestry procurement processreaching 100% use of certified sources in 2016.
“I Care about You – Acting according to nature” offers, in fact, an in-depth analysis of Objective 12 of the UN Agenda 2030 “Responsible consumption and production”, told in class through examples taken from biomimicrya discipline that studies the behavior and characteristics of plants, animals and ecosystems, and takes example from these to improve and make human activities and technologies more sustainable.
Through the five modules of the educational path with in-depth sheets, practical and laboratory activities and web games, children and young people are learning to ask themselves “What can we learn from nature?” rather than “What can we take from it?”. Some examples of how you can make a difference with simple actions in everyday life are also presented in the cartoon that accompanies the new edition of the school project. “You can do like the earthworm, which transforms the fallen leaves it feeds on into fertilizer, and give new life to objects we no longer use. Or again, we can learn from the cat how to reduce waste: in winter it protects itself from the cold with thicker fur and we, like it, can wear heavier clothing and reduce the heating temperature”.
At the end of the course, to try to win one of the prizes up for grabs, the students will be asked to create an essay (a photo, a drawing or an explanatory sentence of the program carried out at school). By May 17, 2024, among all the schools that have submitted at least one paper, 5 will be drawn to win an 800 euro shopping voucher for the purchase of teaching material. Furthermore, another 10 schools will be drawn to win Sofidel-Regina product kits. Also up for grabs are three laptops which will be assigned to participating teachers by drawing.
