Biologists warn about the dangers of people living on Mars

Mars has a gravity that is only 30 percent of Earth’s, and it does not have an ozone layer and a magnetic field that protects the planet from space radiation, UV rays.

Living on Mars may seem like a big dream for people, but some scientists warn that brutal conditions on the red planet could cause major changes in the human body.

Reporting from Wion News (29/9), Dr. Scott Solomon, a biologist from Rice University, Texas, revealed that people living on Mars have the ability to experience large mutations due to adverse environmental conditions, such as low gravity and high radiation. According to him, human skin can turn green, muscles weaken, vision worsens, and bones become brittle.

Mars has a gravity that is only 30 percent of Earth’s, and it does not have an ozone layer and a magnetic field that protects the planet from space radiation, UV rays and dangerous particles that the sun emits. This condition can trigger genetic mutations in people in an attempt to change.

Dr. Solomon explains in his book Future Humans that exposure to high levels of radiation on Mars could cause humans to develop new skin pigments to help combat the harmful effects of that radiation. “Perhaps, we will become green-skinned people,” he said.

In addition, the low gravity on Mars is thought to cause bones to become brittle, increasing the risk of injury for women during childbirth. Human vision is also expected to worsen as a result of living in confined environments with limited space, where long distance visibility is no longer required.

Nevertheless, the dream of making Mars a human habitation still attracts the attention of scientists, although it is necessary to take into account the risks of mutation and body changes such as due to the harsh environment.
