Wright, 35, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds on August 12, 1986, in an alley near the block 2500 West Vernon Avenue in Hyde Park, authorities said.
At the time of his death, Lieutenant Joseph Freia, chief detective of the 77th Street Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, said he had no suspects in the murder.
Freia said Wright’s body was found under a dumped mattress. He might have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the alley.
Only then did the Los Angeles police attribute Wright’s death to the work of a serial killer who had first attacked him the previous year.
He is believed to be the second of the 11 victims of Grim Sleeper.
Barbara Ware
Ware, 23, was found dead Jan.10, 1987, on block 1300 East 56th Street in the Central-Alameda area, authorities said.
A man said he saw Ware’s body and called 911 to report what he saw.
He also reported the full plate number for the van containing the discarded bodies, 1PZP746.
The van described by the caller was found by police in a church parking lot about 4-1 or 2 miles (3.2 km) away from where Ware’s body was found.
Bernita Sparks
Sparks was found dead April 15, 1987, on block 9400 South Western Avenue in Gramercy Park, authorities said.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, he was shot with a small caliber gun. Sparks’ body was found in the trash.
Los Angeles police believe he is the 5th of the 11 victims of Grim Sleeper.

Mary Lowe
Lowe, 26, was found dead October 31, 1987, on block 8900 Western Avenue in Gramercy Park, authorities said.
Her body was dumped in an alley and covered up, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
He was shot with a small caliber gun, police said. Los Angeles police believe he is the 6th of 11 victims of Grim Sleeper.
Lachrica Jefferson
Jefferson, 22, was found dead January 30, 1988, on block 2000 West 102nd Place in the Westmont area, authorities said.
Los Angeles police believe he is the 7th of 11 victims of Grim Sleeper.
Alicia Alexander
Alicia “Monique” Alexander, 18, was found dead September 11, 1988, in an alley near 43rd Place and Western Avenue in Vermont Square, authorities said.

Princess Berthomieux
Berthomieux, 15, was found strangled and beaten March 19, 2002, in an alley in Inglewood, authorities said.
Her naked body was found by a hiker in the bush, according to coroner’s records.
Although the coroner gave a date that the body was found on March 9, 2002, officials from the Los Angeles county attorney’s office said the body was found 10 days after his death.
Berthomieux was last seen by his family on December 21, 2001, police said.

Valerie McCorvey
McCorvey, 35, was found dead July 11, 2003, on Denker Avenue between roads 108 and 109 in the Westmont area, authorities said.
Los Angeles police believe he is the 10th of 11 victims of Grim Sleeper.
On the eve of McCorvey’s death, Franklin faced up to 3 years in prison after not filing an objection to accepting stolen property.
However, as part of a plea deal with prosecutors, he was sentenced to 270 days in prison.
Once he was in prison, Franklin again benefited from the Los Angeles’ overburdened justice system.
Sheriff officials released inmates early to reduce overcrowding at the district prison.
Franklin was released in May 2003, more than 4 months early, according to prison data obtained by The Times.
Two months later, a crossing guard in the Westmont area of the city found McCorvey’s lifeless body.
He suffered trauma to his neck, police said.

Janecia Peters
Peters (25 years) was found dead January 1, 2007, on block 9500 South Western Avenue in Los Angeles. He was shot and covered with a trash bag.
A homeless man searching for a can found his body and called the authorities, according to coroner and police records.
She was originally listed as an unknown woman.
When DNA testing linked the killer to the previous murder.
Police Chief William J Bratton ordered the formation of a task force to investigate the serial killer who would later be nicknamed the Grim Sleeper, as his killer had more than a decade’s hiatus in known killings.
Thomas Steele
Steele, 36, was found dead on August 14, 1986, at the intersection of 71st Street and Halldale Avenue in Harvard Park, authorities said.
