Biodiversity: The Three Basins of Ecosystems in Conclave in Brazzaville

Libreville, Wednesday October 25, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – Delegates from the States of Borneo Mekong, the Amazon and the Congo are meeting for three days of reflection starting this Thursday in the Congolese capital.

A world-class summit opens this Thursday in Brazzaville, Congo. For three days, participants in this summit of the Three Basins of Biodiversity Ecosystems from the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo Mekong-Southeast Asia will discuss themes relating to South-South cooperation, development mechanisms for financing, implementing and regulating the carbon market. It is a question of thinking about mechanisms aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of the three basins, setting up a platform for scientific research, sharing and exchange and strengthening capacities at different levels.

The contribution to the harmonization of the legal mechanisms resulting from the Rio agreements, Kunming-Montreal and the Paris agreement will also be on the agenda of this summit. The Amazon covers 9 countries in South America, while the Congo Basin covers 17 states, including Gabon which alone contains 62% of the forest. As for the Borneo Mekong Basin, which is made up of the island of Borneo and that of the Mekong River, it is the third largest carbon reserve in the world.
