Environnement Côte-Nord organizes the “Biodiversity Rendezvous”. The consultation will allow a regional contribution to the future Nature Plan 2030 announced by the government of Quebec as part of the 15th United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity (COP15).
The major biodiversity issues also concern the North Shore, which is called upon to contribute to efforts to curb the disappearance of one in five species currently threatened. The deputy director of Environment Côte-Nord, Caroline Cloutier, considers the consultation of key players in the region essential. The process begins with the Biodiversity Rendezvous planned for Sept-Îles on November 2.
Green commitments
This first activity will end with resolutions of commitments from certain companies, municipalities and organizations so that the North Shore contributes to the targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
Interview with Caroline Cloutier, Deputy Director Environment North Shore
“This is a unique opportunity to give a regional scope to the work initiated at COP15 in Montreal last December, and to define how the region can contribute to this Quebec Plan and to the major international objectives in the fight against erosion of biodiversity,” concludes Director General Environment Côte-Nord Sébastien Caron.
Regional meeting
The Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks has granted funds to the National Grouping of Regional Environmental Councils to ensure the participation of civil society in the future Nature 2030 Plan .
Thus, Environnement Côte-Nord will organize the Biodiversity Rendezvous. It takes the form of a one-day participatory workshop in Sept-Îles, on November 2, by invitation. Participants will be invited to discuss the issues that concern them, and to express their expectations, proposals and recommendations. A regional tour will follow this fall.
