The National Museum of Natural History publishes a new study with the support of thea SCOR Corporate Foundation for Science

Protecting biodiversity has become an emergency. Like climate change, the degradation of biodiversity is creating dangers that are increasingly threatening. Identifying, understanding and circumscribing the risks associated with the decline of biodiversity has become a major scientific challenge, which calls for the combined efforts of public institutions and private actors.

This is why the SCOR Corporate Foundation for Science has joined forces with the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) to carry out a pioneering large-scale study on the risks associated with the decline of biodiversity, under the aegis of the SCOR-MNHN Biodiversity and (Re) insurance Chair, created in 2019. The MNHN is one of the most renowned natural science institutes in the world, with nearly 400 years of research in natural history.

This partnership gave birth to the report “Biodiversity and Re / insurance: an ecosystem at risk”, which reviews the links between human activities and biodiversity, examines the risks that the decline of biodiversity poses to future human activities, and explores the opportunities for action to protect biodiversity.

SCOR will use the findings and conclusions of this research to understand the risks associated with the decline of biodiversity. On the strength of this, the Group will be able to develop an integrated approach to the management of risks linked to the decline of biodiversity and actively contribute to the protection and preservation of the biosphere.
