PT Bio Farma (Persero) has obtained an Emergency Use Listing (UEL) or emergency use permit from the World Health Organization (WHO) for the nOPV2 polio vaccine. The permit is the first EUL granted by WHO for a vaccine.
According to the Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force and the Ambassador for New Habit Adaptation, dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro, the new polio vaccine produced by Bio Farma, has been registered by WHO for emergency use in various parts of the world.
“WHO has officially registered the latest polio vaccine produced by Bio Farma, called nPOV2, into the emergency use list for use in various parts of the world. Especially to help eliminate polio in African countries,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday (11/17/2020 ).
He expressed this in the Dialogue ‘Calculation of Losses and Diseases’ at the Media Center Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN).
dr. Reisa assessed that the production of the polio vaccine will save many children in the world who are affected by polio. So that the existence of the vaccine is also expected to eliminate polio in the world.
For information, apart from the epidemic in Africa, countries in the East Mediterranean, West Pacific and Southeast Asia are also affected by the polio outbreak. Citing the official WHO website, the world has made tremendous progress towards eradicating polio by reducing polio cases by 99.9% in the last 30 years.
