Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bio Farma provided clarification regarding the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine which was said to have reached 97%. Bio Farma Corporate Secretary Bambang Heriyanto said the interim report on the clinical trial results is expected to be released in January 2021.
“Until now, the phase 3 clinical trial is still ongoing, and it is estimated that the interim report will be available in January,” Bambang told CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (8/12/2020).
He revealed, the results of the report from the clinical trial team of the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University would be a reference for the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) to grant permission for its emergency use.
“The clinical trial data from the Unpad Faculty of Medicine clinical trial team will later be submitted directly to BPOM for evaluation for the approval process for emergency use,” he explained.
Previously, it was said that the corona vaccine made by Sinovac was said to have an efficacy rate of 97% against Covid-19.
“Our clinical trial team found that the data showed an efficacy of up to 97%,” said Iwan Setiawan, a spokesman for Bio Farma, as quoted by Reuters, Tuesday (8/12/2020).
However, on that occasion, Iwan did not specify more clearly where the 97% efficacy result came from.
Previously, Sinovac revealed that his CoronaVac vaccine has an efficacy rate of 97% against Covid-19 infection in healthy adults who received lower doses in phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials.
A Sinovac spokesperson said on Tuesday (8/12/2020) that the biotechnology company had not yet received efficacy results from its third phase clinical trial. Meanwhile, the Brazilian Butantan Institute is expected to publish data on the final stage of the CoronaVac vaccine clinical trial in Brazil on December 15, 2020.
