Binotto: “A two-sided race” – Formula 1

Postpone the Red Bull party as far as the conquest of the Constructors’ World Championship is concerned, it was a difficult undertaking for Ferrari, having to earn 18 points at the Milton Keynes team at the Circuit of the Americas. Carlos Sainz’s knockout after just one lap made what would have been a feat practically impossible.

The Spaniard was hit by George Russell’s Mercedes at a weak point in F1-75 which saw the cooling system damaged resulting in an increase in pressure in the left side of the # 55 Ferrari forced to retire after just one lap. The pole position obtained in qualifying on Saturday thus went up in smoke after a few hundred meters, a real shame considering that the Scuderia di Maranello reached in 2022 the 14 poles obtained in 2004 when the two titles arrived at the end of the golden luster by Michael Schumacher.

Charles Leclerc, also thanks to a lucky Safety Car, suddenly found himself fighting for the victory of the United States Grand Prix, but the last stint with medium tires was not up to the level of degradation of the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, able unlike the Monegasque to take back Lewis Hamilton and conquer the number one success thirteen this season, a figure that puts him alongside the absolute record of Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher with three more chances to overcome the German pair.

The Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto commented the race held in Texas as follows: “It was a two-sided race. Carlos went out innocently on lap one. Charles, for his part, made a beautiful comeback, which took him to the podium. We know that in the race we are currently lacking something towards Red Bull which, with the title won today, has honored the memory of its founder in the best possible way. We will continue to work to give them more trouble already in a week in Mexico, as well as obviously continue to concentrate to the maximum to prepare for next season’s challenge ”.
