Binic Folks Blues 2023: Record Attendance and Amazing Lineup with Gibson Les Pauls, Rickenbacker 4003s, and Fender Stratocasters

Last summer, in Binic, more than 40,000 people responded to the call for Gibson Les Pauls, Rickenbacker 4003s, and other Fender Stratocasters.
A 12th edition of Binic Folks Blues “unanimously welcomed, a resurrection in its historic setting”, says Ludovic Lorre, programmer in charge of the artistic direction of Nef D fous, the association at the origin of the event.

And yet, it was the first time that paid participation was requested from festival-goers. “We recorded around 15,000 paid entries, representing a profit of €50,000! »

A success, for this 2023 version, which allows the Nef D fous to see it coming but above all to relaunch the machine with an even crazier program (and whose budget is equivalent to half a million euros).

“Historics” and new ones

“Always three days, twenty-two international groups for thirty-four concerts,” continues Ludovic Lorre. As for the locations, we keep the same location and we stay on the concert-sea view with a stage on the Banche beach and the Place Pommelec. »
And if “historicals” like the Tasmanian Ben Salter, or his compatriot Jamie Hutchings return to Breton soil, this year, the Nave D fous gives pride of place to the newcomers.

“COFFIN, Clamm or even Delivery. It’s a bit of a trifecta of everything that’s making up the Australian rock scene right now. I just came back from Australia, I saw them there. I know that we will not be disappointed and that this is what the public expects,” assures the programmer with a discerning ear. In total, there are ten groups to fly from the land of kangaroos and AC/DC.

“Melbourne, rock capital of the world”

But actually: why Australia? “Our main partner, Beast Records (a label based in Rennes) is very present in Australia. They produce most of the orchestras coming out of Tasmania today. And today, Melbourne is the rock capital of the world. The cream, the top of the basket, in terms of sounds and musical relevance comes from Australia. »

The loudest band in New York…

The United States, Canada, Italy, Denmark, France and… Brittany will also be represented! “There is always a little nod to the local scene,” smiles Ludovic Lorre. There are three groups. SBRBS, Meat Shirt, this year’s little favorite. And the Druids of the Gué Charette, who have just given a concert at Bonjour-Minuit and whose new album we co-produced will be released at the end of April. »

As for the headliner of this musical gathering, she comes straight from Brooklyn. Often referred to as the loudest band in New York, there is no doubt that A place to Bury Strangers will get the crowd on their feet with their sound mixing indie rock, noise rock and shoegazing. “With them, it’s an experience as visual as it is audible. For the record, they often start their concert by playing a guitar on stage (sic). »Yeah!
