Chairman of the Investment Alert Task Force (SWI) of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Tongam L Tobing prohibits money exchange platforms crypto- Binance operates in Indonesia because they do not have a permit from the competent authority.
In this case, the supervisor and regulator of crypto asset trading is the Commodity Futures Supervisory Agency (Bappebti).
Tongam said that his party had summoned Binance representatives in October 2020. After that, Binance’s representative office in Indonesia was closed.
“Called and they (Binance) came. (Summons) October 2020. In Indonesia they had representatives, now it’s closed,” said Tongam to CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (3/5).
Tongam said that his party had issued a ban on Binance operations since October 27, 2020. He stated that Binance will continue to be banned as long as there is no permission from Bappebti.
He also appealed to the public to be more careful in investing in the financial sector. This is to ensure that the party offering the investment has a permit from the competent authority.
“Information on the list of illegal investment companies can be seen on the OJK website,” said Tongam.
It is known, crypto currencies are increasingly in demand by the market today, including Indonesia. CoFTRA noted that the value of cryptocurrency transactions reached IDR 126 trillion.
Chairman of Bappebti Sidharta Utama assessed that this figure will continue to increase in line with the rapid growth in the value of crypto assets. Moreover, the public is also increasingly enthusiastic about the investment.
“Customers who invest or transact crypto assets are very likely to increase from time to time seeing the value or price of crypto assets which tends to increase,” said Sidharta.
As an illustration, the price of bitcoin from January 1, 2021 to April 20, 2021 increased by 96.87 percent or from the price of IDR 412,280,080 it increased to IDR 811,672,919.
This increase is what makes people tempted to become crypto asset customers to make transactions and / or invest in crypto assets.
Bappebti noted that the number of active investors in crypto assets as of January-March 2021 reached 4.2 million people.
This figure beats the number of stock investors, which amounted to 2 million accounts as of February 2021.
