Binaghi re-elected president of the Tennis and Padel Federation with 96% of the votes. And now he goes on the attack

A triumph. The Sardinian engineer Angelo Binaghi was re-elected today as president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (Fitp) at the assembly in Salerno. In the vote, which took place after a long and detailed process, he obtained 3,188 votes, or 96.23% of voters (125 blank ballots, equal to 3.77%). Binaghi was the only candidate. According to the new law for those who have served more than three terms, he needed two-thirds of the votes. He went much further. Tennis and padel are two sports that are growing rapidly, not only in terms of sporting results, number of members but also in terms of turnover.

Binaghi explained in his introductory speech: “Today is a special day, a day of great celebration, your great celebration, that of Italian tennis and padel. Today we celebrate these four incredible years, in which we have achieved the greatest goals in our ultra-centenary history, our athletes have obtained unimaginable results and we too, all together, have achieved great organizational and associative goals, with the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and the Nitto ATP Finals, and we have achieved them all together by making tennis and padel increasingly popular, creating well-being for our sports clubs, our kids, our teachers and, more generally, for our country”.

Sinner thanked him in recent days with a 10-line message that made him proud. “When we arrived we didn’t find the world number 1 thanking us, but the number 100 who also declared himself the victim of an inefficient and parasitic Federation, which he rejected with disdain, and we had to live with this situation for a long time. Moving from that situation to this one means that we all managed to restore efficiency and credibility to a system, and above all we managed to build an educational system, a system that creates champions but, even before that, good kids and smart people”.

There was no shortage of jabs in Binaghi’s speech. “Today we are the strongest in the world” he explained also illustrating the graphs. Then, he said: “As far as turnover is concerned, we are light years away from volleyball and basketball. Even football, the biggest of all, from which we must learn the good things and leave aside the less good ones, has in the 2024 budget an order of magnitude substantially equal to the 204 million of our 2024 pre-budget. Not to mention the Coni which today has less than half the turnover that we think it will reach in 2024…”. Binaghi is an enemy of Malagò but has already said several times that he will not run for Coni, he is fine where he is. His deputies at Fitp should now be Chiara Appendino and Lello Pagnozzi. An even stronger Federation to face the new challenges. More members, more events, more successes.
