Bin Laden company fined 20 million riyals

Bin Laden’s company fined 20 million riyals for the incident in which more than 100 people died when the crane fell in Mecca. The Makkah Criminal Court sentenced the seven accused to prison terms and fines. The ruling by the new panel of judges overturned the first verdict that acquitted the company.

The court verdict pointed out that the construction company was at fault in the 2015 crane accident. The Makkah Criminal Court took into account the violation of safety rules and negligence. In the case, three accused have been sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 30,000 Rials. Four people were sentenced to 3 months imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 riyals. This judgment shall be final unless the company appeals within the prescribed time.

The crane accident happened on September 11, 2015, when Hajj was about to begin. A crane for the development of the Haram Mosque in Makkah fell to the ground in heavy winds and rain. 108 people, including a Malayali pilgrim, died when the crane fell while the church was full of people. About two hundred and fifty people were injured. The contract for the construction of the harem was given to Bin Laden’s company. Therefore, a case was filed against the company and thirteen people including its officials. Both the lower court and the appellate court acquitted everyone, citing bad weather. The Supreme Court quashed this decision and ordered a re-investigation. The new verdict is at the end of this case.
