REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Coach of the Indonesian U-17 national team Milky Way Tukiman said the coaching team would reduce the number of players who would strengthen the Garuda Muda squad for the 2023 U-17 World Cup, from 26 players to 21 players.

“Currently the number of players in the team is 26 people and this will be reduced later,” said Bima Sakti after leading training at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Monday (30/10/2023).

According to Bima, the names of the players selected for the U-17 national team will be announced directly by PSSI. “Later PSSI will announce the 21 players,” he said.

Bima added that there are two members of the diaspora who have been confirmed to join the U-17 national team in the U-17 World Cup which will be held from 10 November 2023 to 2 December 2023 in Indonesia.

Currently the U-17 national team continues to try to adapt after undergoing a training camp in Germany. Bima said that the weather conditions there were cold with a temperature of eight degrees Celsius and when he arrived in Indonesia he needed to adapt again. “It’s hot here and later we will go to Surabaya so the children can adapt there,” he said.

Regarding the condition of the players, Bima believes that many changes have occurred after undergoing several matches with youth teams in Germany and trials with Barcelona (Spain) and Kashima Antlers (Japan) in August 2023.

In the 2023 U-17 World Cup, Indonesia is in Group A with Ecuador, Morocco and Panama. “We have monitored potential opponents. “Starting from reviewing videos of their matches and preparing a strategy,” Bima emphasized.
