Billy Idol stars in an environmental campaign in New York – Télam

Rock star Billy Idol participated today in the launch of an environmental campaign in New York that aims to reduce the number of vehicles that remain with the engine running without moving and contaminate unnecessarily.

The initiative, titled “Billy is never idle, and neither should you” is being promoted by the New York City Council, and asks New Yorkers to report drivers who do not turn off the engine when stopped.

“Like many of the New Yorkers, I worry when I see cars and trucks stopped while polluting our neighborhoods,” said the winner of three Grammy awards at a press conference, quoted by the Spanish news agency Efe.

“The citizens of New York are some of the most hard-working and passionate I have ever seen in the world, and I hope they will join me in turning off their engines.”

In the campaign, implemented despite the fact that staying with the engine running is illegal in New York since 1972, it is noted that residents who report people who do not comply with the rule will take a portion of the fine imposed.

The slogan “Billy Never Idles, Neither Should You” will be printed on posters, T-shirts and other promotional material as part of a million dollar advertising campaign, which will also be extended to television networks, radio stations radio, taxis and social networks.
