Ilon Masks, head of US electric car company Tesla Motors, has bought a 9.2% stake in microblogging on Twitter, according to documents submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The mask has bought about 73.5 million shares of the company.
The share of Twitter shares acquired by Maska is perceived as a passive investment, which means that Masks is a long-term investor who will restrict the purchase and sale of its shares.
However, analysts say that over time, Masks could also become more involved in the management of Twitter, given his recent objections to the ability to communicate freely on a microblogging site.
Masks also recently wrote in his Twitter account that he was considering a new social media platform.
