Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Smokey Robinson & 200 Artists Call for Better Protection of Artistic Works Against AI Threats

More than 200 famous artists, including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj and Smokey Robinson, called for better protection of artistic works and copyrights, in light of the threats posed by artificial intelligence capable of “destroying the music system,” in an open letter published the day before yesterday. “We must protect ourselves from the unchecked use of artificial intelligence to steal the voices of professional artists, violate the rights of creators, and destroy the music system,” they said in the letter.

The letter continued, “We call on all digital music platforms and music services to commit not to developing or publishing any technology, content, or music creation tools based on artificial intelligence, which weakens or replaces the human art created by songwriters and artists, or deprives us of fair compensation for our work.” The development of generative artificial intelligence raises fears of several threats to the music field, especially its ability to reproduce famous sounds.
