In a new interview with Vogue the 21-year-old singer opens up about how she developed body positivity, after being in a darker place growing up.
– Going through my adolescence hating myself and all that stupid shit, she says and continues:
– A lot of it came from my anger at my body, and how angry I was about how much pain it caused me and what I lost because of the things that happened to it.
Hypermobile joints
At 13, Eilish suffered a growth plate injury. This led the singer to give up his great hobby – dancing.
– I was hurt right after making “Ocean Eyes,” shares.
– After that, music replaced dance in a way.
Subsequent years of lower body injuries and misdiagnoses increased the alienation Eilish felt within her own body.
– I felt my body was “lighting up” me for years.
– I had to go through a process where I had to learn that my body is actually part of me, and it doesn’t want to hurt me, shares the 21-year-old.
Additionally, Eilish says she was eventually diagnosed with hypermobile joint, a condition where the joint can bend outside of the typical range of motion.
According to the singer’s mother, Maggie Baird, Eilish has to rule out a number of treatments due to the diagnosis.
– Treatments that are helpful for others, such as certain types of massage or the chiropractor, can actually harm her, explains Baird.
klimtivist
In the interview, Eilish also discusses her own awareness of climate change. On the cover of the magazine, the singer poses with young climate activists.
Eilish says she tries to be more aware of the choices she herself makes in everyday life.
– I shouldn’t be making products. I shouldn’t be selling anything. It’s just suckier to end up in the trash heap one day, I know.
– But no one will stop wearing clothes, no one will stop making things. So I just try to do it as best as possible, reflects the singer.
