North Carolina, Raleigh – The proposal that requires the cooperation of the North Carolina sheriffs with the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE), will be discussed in the Judiciary Committee 2 of the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, February 22.
According to the legislative calendar, HB 10 will be the only proposal to be considered by Judiciary Committee 2, which will meet in room 421 at 10 am.
The committee has a total of 10 members, 6 of them Republican representatives and 4 Democrats. Besides, Carson SmithRepublican Representative, District 16 (Onslow/Pender), one of the primary sponsors of HB 10, is a member of this committee.
“Sanctuary Policies”
Republican Rep. Destin Hall is the primary sponsor of the HB 10. The proposal has the support of 40 of his colleagues.
“Sanctuary policies are a threat to the safety of everyone living in North Carolina,” Hall said in a video on Twitter.
Representative Hall blamed the “woke” movement (a derogatory term for progressives) and “illegal aliens” for the insecurity in the state.
ICE in North Carolina, “federal matter, not state”
Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden told Latin Link NC his opposition to bills HB 10 and SB 50.
“I am strongly opposed to HB 10 and SB 50,” he mentioned. McFadden indicated that this (immigration) is a federal matter, arguing that this type of proposal creates more problems than solutions.
Legislative route
If a favorable report is received, this bill will be referred to the Rules and Operations Committee before going to the plenary session of the House of Representatives.
