Bill on troop withdrawal from Saudi Arabia has appeared – EADaily, 9 October 2022 – Politics, Russia News

A group of Democratic Party lawmakers has tabled a bill for the withdrawal of US troops and air defense systems from Saudi Arabia and the UAE in response to OPEC + ‘s decision to cut oil production.

deputies Tom Malinowski from New Jersey Sean Kasten from Illinois and Susan Wild from Pennsylvania presented the draft “Tensive Partnership Act”, which requires the withdrawal of all US troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, along with air defense systems such as Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD) , reports the Washington Post.

“The sharp cuts in oil production by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, despite the initiatives of President Biden towards both countries in recent months, are an act of hostility against the United States and a clear signal that they decided to side with Russia in its war against Ukraine, “ lawmakers said in a statement.

Previously, OPEC + participating countries decided to reduce oil production by 2 million barrels per day since November. One of the reasons announced is the threat of a global recession, which will lead to a decrease in the consumption of raw materials. Furthermore, many producing countries do not respect the quotas and the real reduction could be 1 million barrels.

The White House called this decision short-sighted and the president of the United States Joe Biden it immediately announced the sale of another 10 million barrels of oil from state reserves. In October, the United States will complete the sale of 180 million barrels within six months.

If OPEC + countries want to sustain high oil prices, the United States seeks to lower prices, as it affects the cost of fuel in the country and directly on the incumbent president’s rating.

The current bill is not the only one in Congress against OPEC +. There is also a bill that allows the United States to impose sanctions on producing countries if Washington believes they are violating market rules or manipulating it.
