Bill Gates plans to donate his entire fortune, “eventually I will leave the list of the richest people in the world”
Mexico City.- The billionaire owner of MicrosoftBill Gates announced this Wednesday that he will contribute 20 billion dollars this month to the fund of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, an organization that also intends to increase its annual spending to 9 billion in 2026, which is 50 percent more than to pre-pandemic levels.

Bill Gates, one of the most important philanthropists in the world, said in his personal blog that the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine are two “setbacks” in the face of the progress of the last two decades and highlighted that “the great crises of our time require us all to do more.”
The billionaire, however, declared himself “optimistic” and noted that he is putting a good part of his “energy and resources” into innovations aimed at preventing pandemics, advancing global health, mitigating climate change, improving education and reduced food costs.
With the additional 20 billion dollars that Bill Gates adds to the funds of the foundation created together with his ex-wife in 2000, the total endowment amounts to about 70 billion, while the annual spending forecast would exceed 6 billion from pandemic times to 9 billion in 2026.
“Looking to the future, my plan is to give all my wealth to the foundation, taking away what I spend on myself and my family,” added the businessman, who has a fortune of around 122 billion dollars.
“I will go down and eventually get off the list of the world’s richest people,” Gates said, perhaps with a humorous tone. “Giving this money is not a sacrifice at all.”
“I feel privileged to be involved in facing these great challenges, I enjoy the work and I believe that I have an obligation to give my resources back to society in the way that has the greatest impact to improve lives.”
