Bill Gates just bought his first electric car and loves it

It looks like Bill Gates has let go of his purse strings a bit and has been enjoying himself lately. After placing an order for a hydrogen yacht valued at $ 644 million (information denied by the manufacturer since, but in a rather ambiguous way since Gates did not deny it), the ex boss of Microsoft indicates in a interview posted on YouTube to have fallen for the Porsche Taycan, which he seems rather satisfied.

The businessman who became a philanthropist and even an activist on health and environmental issues has always been very discreet about his private life and his lifestyle, even if we know that the one who has long been the richest man in the world is fond of beautiful mechanics. His garage has more than twenty cars of all kinds, including several Porsches, and among them the mythical and extremely rare 959 from 1988. We also know that in his early years as a millionaire he drove behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 .

Bill Gates stays true to his favorite brand

It seems that Bill Gates has remained faithful to his favorite brand since in a video interview with the famous YouTuber Marques Brownlee [1], he reveals that he bought a Porsche Taycan, which is his first electric car. Gates is probably one of the first customers in the world to take possession of his latest toy, along with another American also involved in tech, Greg Wyler. In a few words, and without going into the subject, Gates indicates that his new mount is at a “premium” price, but that it is really great, and that he appreciates it very much.

That said, Gates still doesn’t seem completely convinced by the electric, since he explains that if electric vehicles are one of the most optimistic areas to reduce emissions, and that many car manufacturers come to them, the main problem there is still autonomy when you want to travel long distances, creating an obsession or anxiety about the breakdown.

As a reminder, the Porsche Taycan offers a range of around 325 kilometers in its current most “economical” version, namely the Taycan Turbo, according to the EPA standard. A figure whose reality is disputed by recent tests carried out by specialized media, which report a range closer to 400 kilometers. On the other hand, the 4S version of the Taycan will hit the market in the coming weeks, with theoretically higher battery life.

[1] it’s worth pointing out that Brownlee is riding in Tesla, of which he is one of the most fervent followers (and indeed, ambassador, given his audience)
