The main reason for that relapse is the divorce of Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, and the splitting of their assets. Gates has been part of the select circle of top billionaires since 1987 and it is the first time he has fallen outside the top three since Forbes started the list.

Bill and Melinda decided to split up after the former head of Microsoft turned out to be friends with Jeffrey Epstein in 2019. An investigation is also underway into a suspected relationship between Gates and a Microsoft employee, in 2000.

Bill Gates is currently worth $129.6 billion, while Zuckerberg is in fourth place with $132 billion.
