Bill Gates buys the Hotel San Domenico in Taormina and the Danieli in Venice

For sure he can afford it and he has never made any secret of loving Italy and Sicily in particular. so Bill Gates, for years the richest man in the world and still among the richest today, allowed himself the “luxury” of buying two historic hotels, the Danieli in Venice and, above all, one dear to us Sicilians, namely the San Domenico of Taormina.

Both structures entered the Four Seasons, the company of Microsoft founder and Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. The renovation of the Danieli – located a stone’s throw from Piazza San Marco – was entrusted to the designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. There will be 200 rooms and everything will be ready for 2024. In the past, illustrious guests have stayed here such as: Walt Disney, Goethe, Charles Dickens and Steven Spielberg.

King Street, an American fund that set up the loans and provided the capital for the renovation, reports a figure of around 30 million euros made available for the works. The San Domenico of Taormina it was instead taken over by Gates for 52.2 million, surpassing the offer of the Emir of Qatar Al-Thani by 200 thousand euros.
